Join our inclusive team of Volunteers

Silverchain volunteers share their time, compassion and experience so our Western Australian clients remain connected to their community. Our clients benefit from our volunteers’ companionship, transport, assistance with daily activities, using technology or in our Social Centres.

You don’t need formal qualifications to join Silverchain as a volunteer. All you need is:

  • To share our values of integrity, respect, trust and compassion
  • Be aged over 18 years with a current National Police Check, for which Silverchain will pay when we onboard volunteers
  • Provide evidence of current COVID-19 vaccinations
  • A commitment of at least two hours each week
  • Enjoy the company of older people.

A range of volunteer roles are available and can be matched to your interests. We provide induction, training and opportunities to network with our other volunteers.

Current opportunities are available in metropolitan Perth and some regional areas in Western Australia and include:

  • Community Connections: Our volunteers visit clients at risk of being socially isolated. These volunteers are aged over 18 years and are available during business hours, 8am – 5pm.
  • Palliative Care volunteers: Our volunteers provide our palliative care clients with companionship and social support such as taking our client out or help them with shopping. Spending time with our clients can give their family or carer some respite. Our volunteers are trained and offered support to debrief and gain support.
  • Social Centre: Our volunteers work alongside our Social Centre employees to provide our clients with activities including art, crafts, puzzles, gardening, meal prep, outings and music to name a few.
  • Special Projects / Administration: Our Volunteers assist with general administrative tasks during business hours which include data entry, archiving, mailouts and assisting on projects. These opportunities are usually suited to students or others wanting to gain work experience in an office environment or health industry.
  • Volunteer Technology Support program: Our volunteers share their expertise with technology with our clients in regional Western Australia to help them use technology to stay connected with family and friends.
  • Volunteer Transport program: Our volunteers pick up our clients from their homes and drive them to our Social Centres or to other social activities, then return them safely home.
